French Polynesia Marine Conservation Program

The French Polynesia Marine Conservation Program is a science-based educational initiative designed to engage local youth from Tahiti and Mo’orea in hands-on marine research and cultural immersion. Led by Nature and Oceans Adventures (NOA) in partnership with Reva Atea, the program combines field-based learning with meaningful contributions to coral reef conservation and sustainability.

Participants begin in Tahiti, exploring native ecosystems and gaining an introduction to traditional Polynesian ecological knowledge. In Mo’orea, students take part in coral reef monitoring programs on both the northern and southern reefs, collecting biodiversity data through guided snorkel surveys. These activities are supported by workshops on marine biodiversity, data analysis, and reef ecology, led by experts including Aeata Richerd and Dr. Alexandre Fellous.

The program also includes a visit to a local agricultural high school, where students engage in permaculture workshops that highlight the connection between sustainable land practices and marine conservation.

Our goal is to expand access to 500 students annually from local communities, enhance educational resources, and improve scientific materials to support a growing network of young environmental stewards across French Polynesia.

By supporting this program, donors directly invest in the education and empowerment of Tahitian and Mo’orean youth, and in the protection of one of the world’s most biodiverse marine environments. Your contribution helps us provide scholarships, upgrade field research equipment, and build capacity for long-term ecological impact in the region.
