Course Introduction
This self-paced course offers a comprehensive exploration of the hydrosphere, emphasizing the physical and behavioral adaptations that enable marine organisms to survive and thrive in diverse aquatic environments. From the sunlit surface waters to the mysterious depths of the deep sea, you will examine the interactions between marine life and their habitats, as well as the ecological principles that govern life beneath the waves. Through a scientific lens, this course investigates biodiversity, ecosystem dynamics, and behavioral ecology, equipping you with essential knowledge to understand and protect our planet’s marine systems.
Learning Outcomes
After completing this course you’ll be able to:
Understand the structure and dynamics of marine environments, including oceanic zones and large freshwater ecosystems.
Analyze patterns of marine biodiversity and recognize the importance of species richness and ecological roles.
Identify physical and behavioral adaptations in marine animals in response to environmental pressures.
Explore core principles of behavioral ecology, including communication, social behavior, and species interactions.
Apply ecological theory to real-world scenarios and communicate scientific findings through independent research presentations.
Is this course for me?
Are you intrigued by the hidden worlds of the ocean? Curious about the adaptations that allow species to flourish in extreme marine environments? Do you want to explore the interactions among marine organisms and their roles within ecosystems? This course is designed for students pursuing studies in marine biology, oceanography, environmental science, or related fields. It is also well-suited for professionals in marine conservation, research, or education seeking to deepen their understanding of ecological and behavioral adaptations in aquatic systems. Whether you're preparing for a scientific career or simply passionate about marine life, this course will provide you with a meaningful and engaging learning experience.

Course Curriculum
This curriculum is meticulously designed to provide a thorough and engaging exploration of marine ecosystems and the adaptive strategies of marine organisms. Spanning twelve self-paced classes, the course begins with an introduction to global aquatic environments—including the major oceans and freshwater biomes—and transitions into behavioral ecology and species-specific adaptations. You will investigate ocean currents, climate effects, and biodiversity hotspots while gaining insight into ecological zones such as coral reefs, seagrass beds, and mangroves. The latter part of the course focuses on communication and behavior in marine mammals, sharks, and invertebrates, as well as the impact of environmental threats like ocean acidification and sea level rise. You will also explore conservation frameworks, such as Marine Protected Areas. Prepare to immerse yourself in the complexity and beauty of marine life while developing a deeper understanding of the ecological patterns that sustain ocean ecosystems.

Sustainable Development Goals

Another fantastic course to follow up the initial zoology class! Marta is an exceptional teacher, and my child has thoroughly enjoyed every moment of learning from her. Marta's enthusiasm, knowledge, and engaging teaching style have truly made a significant impact on my child's educational journey. We highly recommend her to everyone we meet and can't stop singing her praises!
